Hi! Thanks for taking the time to learn a little about how I became part of the Ecole Sir John Franklin High School community. I have recently returned from maternity leave after having my son in September 2009. I came to Yellowknife in January 2006 to pursue my career in teaching. I am one of those "I will only stay for a year" cases that you hear about so often in this city. This year has turned into five and will most likely turn into ten or more because of the amazing people I have met here. After working as a Research Technician for 6 years, I came to realize that the most interesting aspect of my job was assisting and teaching the Masters and PhD students within our department. I decided to return to the University of Western Ontario to complete a Honours Degree in English Language Arts and Sociology. I completed my degree in Education in 2006 which involved a 5 month practicum at St. Patrick High School in Yellowknife. I was added to the Sir John staff in September of 2006 and have been part of the English Department ever since. Aside from being a full time teacher and mom, I enjoy long distance running and have shared this passion through my coaching of the cross country and track teams at the school. You may also see me enjoying yoga, cross country skiing, travelling, and walking my Goldendoodle, Jake.
