December was very exciting for the SJF Music students. We had visits from members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra and some touring musicians. Throat singer Sylvia Clouthier gave a presentation to General Music and Northern Studies students about her Inuit heritage and her job as a touring throat singer. Kimball Sykes, principal clarinetist with the orchestra gave a workshop to the clarinet and saxophone players of the band and our music teacher, Susan Shantora and the choral music class had a conducting workshop with the Artist Director and Principal conductor, Alexander Shelley.
The Sweet Sounds of the Season concert was a huge success with over 65 students on stage performing. Congratulations to Ms. Shantora and the music department for all the wonderful music!
